Lynwood Silvester Bryant
Age 96, of Center Sandwich, NH, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 after
a period of failing health. He was born December 8, 1908 in Keene,
NH, the son of the late Royal and Mary Jane (Bradbury) Bryant. He
graduated from Mt. Hermon School and received AB and AM degrees from
Harvard University. He married Louise S. Graham in 1939. He was
Professor Emeritus of History at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, where he was a faculty member from 1937 to 1975. He also
served as Director of the MIT Press. Prior to his career at MIT, he
taught at the Roxbury Latin School. He was active in Sandwich local
boards, committees and activities. He participated in the Over-the-
Hill Hikers, Sandwich Players, and various musical activities. He is
survived by his wife Louise, his sister Laura B. Wyman of
Dennisport, MA, his son Peter of Denver CO, daughter Susan Bryant-
Kimball and her husband Chip Kimball of Sandwich, daughter Emily
Bryant of Orford, NH, 4 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Royal and his sister Elinore.
There will be no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held
Monday, March 21, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Methodist Church, Main
Street, CENTER SANDWICH, NH. Burial will be in the East Sandwich
Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the East Sandwich Meeting House and Cemetery
Association, c/o Gerry Hambrook, 196 Vittum Hill Road, Sandwich, NH
03227. Arrangements are under the care of Lord Funeral Home, Route
28, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
